Wix is a website builder with a store inside it: a drag-and-drop editor, with hosting and upgrades included, priced by location. Its own help centre is plain that a Wix site cannot run anywhere but on Wix. GoCommerce and Svelte Commerce are MIT source you run yourself — on any server, which means somebody has to run it.

KitCommerce is an open-source ecommerce platform. Its packages are GoCommerce, the backend and admin, and Svelte Commerce, the storefront — MIT licensed, used together or either one on its own. On this page, each claim names the package it is about.

Wix sets price and currency by location and gives US dollar prices for reference, so the dollar figures here are those reference prices, not rupee quotes.

Wix’s bill is a plan for each site; ours is a server and a developer. The dollar figures below are Wix’s reference prices — its checkout shows the price for your country.

For one small store and no developer, a Wix plan costs less than anyone’s time. The balance shifts with more storefronts, a need to change how checkout works, or a requirement that the store can change host.
Which one fits
Choose Wix eCommerce when
- You want to design the site yourself in a visual editor, without a developer.
- The shop is one part of a site that also takes bookings, sells tickets or runs courses.
- You want hosting, security and upgrades handled, with 24/7 support to call.
- One storefront and a modest catalogue are all you need.
Choose GoCommerce + Svelte Commerce when
- The store has to be portable: your server, your database, free to change host.
- You want several storefronts on one catalogue without a plan for each.
- You need to change how checkout, pricing or orders work, not only how they look.
- You want Indian fulfilment in the backend itself — Delhivery, Shiprocket, India Post and NimbusPost modules, and MSG91 for SMS.
What you take on
- You host it: a server, a PostgreSQL database, backups and upgrades are yours, or a developer’s you pay.
- No app store. What a module does not cover, somebody writes.
- GoCommerce has over 1,000 tests, but no store we know of runs it in production yet.
- Svelte Commerce reaches GoCommerce through an early connector, version 0.1.0: catalogue, cart, checkout and order lookup work; customer accounts and a search index do not.
- No visual editor. Every layout change in Svelte Commerce is a code change.
- No bookings, events or courses. Those are other software.
Moving from Wix
Your data moves; your site does not.
Wix exports products to CSV, up to 5,000 rows a file, and orders to CSV. There is no Wix importer for GoCommerce, so the move is a script that reads those files and writes through GoCommerce’s documented API. Digital products are not in Wix’s export and need handling on their own.
The design stays behind. Wix says its sites run only on its own servers, and Svelte Commerce has no Wix connector, so the storefront is rebuilt — from one of its 79 demo themes, or from scratch.
FAQ
Questions about Wix eCommerce and GoCommerce
Can I export my Wix site and host it myself?
No. Wix’s help centre says a Wix site has to run on Wix’s servers; you can connect your own domain, but not move the site. Products and orders can be exported as CSV files.
Does Wix Payments work in India?
No. Wix lists 15 countries for Wix Payments, and India is not among them. For India, Wix lists PayPal, Razorpay, PayU India, Cashfree Payments, Paytm, Easebuzz, airpay and Nimbbl as providers.
Which Wix plan do I need to sell online?
Core or above. Wix’s help centre says the Light plan cannot accept payments. At Wix’s US dollar reference prices, Core is $29 a month billed yearly; the price shown in India may differ.
Is GoCommerce easier than Wix?
No. Wix is built so that someone without a developer can launch a store. GoCommerce and Svelte Commerce need a developer to deploy and change. They are the better choice when control, portability or several storefronts matter more than ease.
How do I move my products from Wix to GoCommerce?
Export them from Wix as CSV — up to 5,000 rows a file — and write a script against GoCommerce’s documented REST API. There is no ready-made Wix importer.
